Auto Finance
Deciding to finance an auto can be very stressful and it can also drain you financially if you are not sure what you are doing or what your limits are. Know what you can afford before you go to a car dealership. Know what your limits are and how much you can and cannot afford. Do not try to get an auto that is way out of your price range just because it is what you want. Sometimes we have to just settle for something a little lower class in order to be able to afford it and make the payments. Some of the things you should ask yourself is:
Are you thinking of buying a new vehicle or a used one?
How much money do you have for a down payment?
How much can you afford in monthly payments?
Have you included the cost of tags, taxes, and insurance in your budget?
Should I lease or purchase a vehicle?
How am I going to finance this vehicle?
Should I pay cash or finance the vehicle?
Should I use a home equity loan or get an auto loan? (Think of the difference in interest that will be paid.)
There are other questions which may come to mind but a person should know basically where they stand before going to the car lot. The salesmen there will undoubtedly try to get you to buy something you may not be able to afford. Hold your ground and be firm with them. Tell them what you have to offer and let them find something that fits your budget, not their pockets. They work on commissions so they are more than likely going to try to sell you the highest car on the lot. They may have to back down and let you downgrade a little with your choice and they can also reduce the price of the vehicle tremendously. Don’t let them pressure you into getting something you know you can not afford.
You can also try to get them to include the cost of the taxes and tags into the total cost of the vehicle. However, if you do this, remember, you will also be paying interest on these costs. If you pay them yourself there is no interest charges on the tax and tag fees. In most cases, if the vehicle is financed, you will also be required to pay for full coverage insurance and not just liability.
There are many websites where you can get price quotes on vehicles and they can connect you with the car dealers in your area. You can get price comparisons too so you can go to the dealership that can give you the best deal.
